Deep Purple
The mythical river Styx (also a band name) is described as "darker than deep purple" in Canto VII, lines 103-08, of Dante's Inferno.
Though the band had a number of hit albums and FM radio hits, they are best known for the song "Smoke On The Water" which is many a young guitarist's first riffs to master. Their early single "Hush" was a popular radio hit.
