Judas Priest is an English heavy metal band from Birmingham, formed in 1969. Their core line-up consists of vocalist Rob Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton, and K.K. Downing, and also bassist Ian Hill.
Downing and Hill had known each other since early childhood, and became close friends in their early teens. They shared musical interests and formed the band in 1969 after another local band using the name Judas Priest broke up.
The name was taken from the Bob Dylan song "The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest" from the John Wesley Harding
