Foo Fighters is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington. They formed in 1995 when drummer Dave Grohl started a group as a one-man project after the dissolution of his previous band, Nirvana
, in 1994.Grohl completed an album's worth of material in five days and handed out cassette copies of the sessions to his friends for feedback. He wanted to keep the tracks quiet and planned on releasing the recordings in a limited run under the title "Foo Fighters."
The term is taken from the World War II term "foo fighter", which was used to refer to unidentified flying objects.
The demo tape got wider circulation than planned and created interest among record labels, so Grohl formed a band to support the album.
